How Double-Deck Blackjack is Different from Single-Deck Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the most popular casino games (like online slots, Baccarat, scratch cards and many more) in the UK and there are a number of variants with different bets.

You can now play Blackjack with a single deck or up to 8 decks in a live casino. This casino guide explains the difference between these two variants which will help you in selecting appropriate Blackjack variants offering you spectacular live gaming experience.

Single-deck vs. double-deck Blackjack

Single deck Blackjack offers the players with attractive profits. The house edge is very low (0.15%) when players stick to the game of cards with a single deck.

The traditional Blackjack game was played with a single-deck. However, casinos have moved towards multiple deck games in recent years. This strategy makes it harder for players to count cards and it has gained popularity over the past few decades. The double-deck also increases the house edge.

Many online casinos have reintroduced the single-deck game but it does not offer you better odds to win.

Say, for instance, if you place a $100 bet on a double-deck game with 3:2 payout you will get $150 on winning. Whereas you get $120 for a single-deck game with 6:5 payout. The slight increase in the house edge isn’t worth the decrease in payout for a single deck game. It is wise to stick with multiple deck games unless you find a casino that offers 3:2 payouts for a single deck game.

Advantages and disadvantages of single-deck and multi-deck Blackjack

It is easier to keep a record of cards that have been revealed in a single-deck game. However, the insurance bet has a higher house edge as there are fewer 10-value cards in the deck. In a single-deck Blackjack game, card counters don’t have to wait for a long time to get a favourable count, thus allowing them to bet big much sooner.

Double-deck Blackjack is more widely available in the online casinos. It is easier to double down because there are more 10s and picture cards in this variant. Multi-deck Blackjack has a lower house edge than single-deck when gamblers use the optimal strategy to play.

Cards in single and double-deck games are dealt with the face down. Since no one has the idea of the value they are holding, counters don’t value those cards in the count.

You should try both versions of Blackjack before reaching a conclusion as the way you play can also become a turning point in the game.
